NORFOLK, Va. - The Drexel men's tennis team fell in the first round of the CAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon, as the ninth-seeded Dragons fell to No. 8 Delaware, 4-1. The Blue Hens won four of the first five singles matches off the court, clinching the victory as doubles play was not required.
Bryan Nguyen, a senior playing his final collegiate match, got the Dragons' point. Playing at No. 4 singles, Nguyen grinded out a 7-6 victory in the first set, then remained focused through the second set to win that one, 6-4.
Drexel could not get another point, although its top player, Badr Ouabdelmoumen, concluded an outstanding freshman campaign with a strong effort at No. 1. He was edged in the first set, 6-4, then took the second to a tiebreaker before falling, 7-6 (4).
Dan Koehler was looking to get a point when the Blue Hens wrapped up their fifth match, so his contest at No. 5 was not concluded. Koehler trailed Delaware's Ryan Kent, 6-4, 4-6, 3-1 at the time.
Paul Stauskas and Skyler Davis also had strong showings in their matches, but could not come away with wins as the Blue Hens moved on.
