Savell to Guide Men's Eight and Double at the 2012 Henley Royal Regatta

Philadelphia – Director of Rowing Paul Savell will take the first-ever Drexel men's eight boat to the Henley Royal Regatta held on the Thames River in England, from June 27 - July 1. The men's eight pre-qualified and will automatically be one of the 32 boats out of 68 entries vying for the Temple Challenge Cup. The Dragons will also be racing a double, which will take the water first for Drexel on Friday, June 22.
Drexel's double is one of 17 entries that will compete in a time-trial in order to qualify for the Double Sculls Challenge Cup. Aleksandar Radovic (Smederevo, Serbia/ Gimnazija Smederevo) and John Pieper (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Walnut Hills) will take the Thames River at 6:30 p.m. (BST) on Friday, June 22. The top four fastest times will advance to the cup.
The men's eight draw for the Temple Challenge Cup will be released following the qualifying heats on Sunday, June 24. The men's varsity eight, in the newly named Lois Krall boat, will feature coxswain Randall Lee (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./ William Tennent), stroke Kurt Linton (Linwood, N.J./ St. Augustine Prep), Paul Wisniowski (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle), Michael Faust (Northfield, N.J./ St. Augustine Prep), Lorenzo Albala (Elkins Park, Pa./ Boston Latin), Sebastian Ryan (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Xavier), Ryan Mallgrave (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township), Vanja Busic (Zadar, Croatia/Gimnazija Juraj Barakovic) and bow Will Masters (Somers Point, N.J./ Mainland Regional).
On June 23, the men's eight will race in the Reading Town Regatta in the final tune-up before for the Henley Royal Regatta. The regatta is an 800 meter sprint upstream in the town of Reading on the Thames River. Click here to view the draw for Saturday.
