Philadelphia — Drexel University women's soccer coach Ray Goon has announced the hiring of Jodi Clugston as an assistant coach. Clugston brings a wealth of experience as both a collegiate coach and a player. She will oversee Drexel's goalkeepers in addition to other coaching duties.
Clugston was most recently a head coach at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C. She had previously served as an assistant coach at Lamar and was an undergraduate coach at the University of Virginia. Clugston, who graduated from Virginia in 2006, played for two seasons in goal for the Cavaliers in goal before suffering an injury which would prematurely end her playing career. She made 23 starting assignments and in her final year of competition, Clugston's team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. In her 12 starts in 2001, UVa was 10-1-1. She graduated with a 1.19 goals against average, 72 career saves and is still tied for eighth all-time at the school in career shutouts.
Clugston, a native of Red Hill, Pa., played at Upper Perkiomen High School. She was a NSCAA and Parade All-American during her high school career and was also a member of the United States U-16 and U-18 National Team.
“We are excited to have Jodi join our staff,” said Goon. “The commitment to excellence she displayed during her playing career should be a benefit for our student-athletes as they continue to develop.”
