Berkeley, Calif. – Drexel Field Hockey, ranked 18th nationally, recorded its third shutout of the season against UC Davis, 6-0, on Wednesday night at California's Maxell Family Field. The Dragons outshot the Aggies, 13-6, and earned eight penalty corners to UC Davis' four. Six different players added points on the board for Drexel. The team improved to 4-0 overall.
Senior captain Amanda Fleischut opened up the game with an unassisted goal, her first of the season, with just over six minutes into play. At 20:45, Christina Conrad tipped the ball over the right side of opposing goalkeeper Conley Craven from Fleischut's pass to give Drexel a two-goal lead.
With four minutes remaining in the first half, junior Lindsay McArdle shot the ball across and into cage from the baseline. Elise DiDonato followed with a goal from teammate Danielle Grassi's pass. The Dragons led 4-0 at half.
The Dragons continued to put pressure on the Aggies' defense in the second half. McArdle carried the ball into the right side of the circle and passed to Margaux Lourtie who fired a shot into the cage. With 12 minutes remaining in the second half, Alexandra Atiyeh beat Craven to the right side from teammate Kristina Derkits' pass.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jantien Gunter made a save to preserve the shutout. She now has 16 total stops for Drexel and three shutouts. UC Davis' goalkeeper Conley Craven recorded two saves.
The Dragons continue their West Coast trip with games against No. 22 California on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. (PST) followed by No. 16 Stanford on Sunday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. (PST).
