
Swimming and Diving Falls to Delaware on Senior Day

Philadelphia – The Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams were topped by Delaware on Saturday, 179-121, and 210-90 respectively. The women were also defeated by Northeastern, 206-94. The Dragons had a number of outstanding performances, including a combined 19 top-place finishes. The women dropped to 0-8 on the season, while the men's team moved to 5-2 overall. Seniors Lauren Faykes, Julie Lin, Steph Uecker, David Boodey, Stephen Cal and Daniel Zalkind were honored at their last home meet at Drexel Pool.
The men started the day strong winning the second event as Kyle Lukens, Chad Schmidt, Mike Krohn, and Alex Bagshaw stopped the clock first in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:34.39. Teammates John Quagliariello, Andrew Reimon, Alex Chialastri, and Mike Shaeffer also took third place at 1:35.56. Freshman Joel Berryman touched the wall first in the 100 back with an impressive time of 51.38. In the following event, the Dragons earned the top three spots in the 100 breast. Greg Oprendek posted a time of 59.10 for first-place, Andrew Reimon came in second at 59.28 and Chad Schmidt in third at 59.66. Reimon also stopped the clock first in the 200 breast, while Schmidt captured third followed by Oprendek in fourth.
On the women's side, standout senior Lauren Faykes tallied all the Dragons first place finishes of the day. She outlasted her opponents taking first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.87. Faykes was also victorious in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.9 and the 200 IM at 2:08.50. Teammate Brianna Bentz tallied second place in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. Gizem Yali also finished second in the 200 back.
Drexel's divers had a successful day in the pool. Senior Stephen Cal took first in the 1 meter event with a score of 277.20. Madison Kramer also took first in the 1 meter event with a 243.45. Teammate David Sanchez clinched the Dragons third first place finish winning the 3 meter dive with a 278.80.
The Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in the water on Saturday, January 19 at Howard University at 1:00 p.m.
