No.19 Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Decision at Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 19 Drexel field hockey team falls short by one-point at Northeastern, 1-0, in the Colonial Athletic Association opener on Friday night. Drexel outshot the Huskies, 12-8, while Northeastern held a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners. The Dragons moved to 8-4 overall.
With 19:03 showing on the clock in the first half, Northeastern earned an offense penalty corner. Drexel's Jantien Gunter made the intial stop, however, the Huskies' Caroline Judge recovered the rebound on the right side of the circle before firing the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. The Dragons continued to test the Huskies' defense, but were unable to overcome the one-goal deficit for the remainder of the contest.
Northeastern's goalkeeper Becky Garner turned away seven of the Dragons' shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Jantien Gunter finished the night with three saves combining for 64 stops on the season. Senior co-captain Elise DiDonato, junior Christina Conrad and junior Rachel Sumfest each had two shots on goal during Drexel's offensive effort throughout the game.
The squad will face Hofstra on Sunday, October 13 at 1:00 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y.
