Newark, Del. – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to Delaware, 1-0, on the road on Friday evening. The Dragons move to 5-10-1, 1-5 while the Blue Hens improve to 9-6-1, 3-2-1 overall.
Drexel made its first attempt early as Megan Hammaker put a shot up in the fourth minute, but it found the post. Delaware retaliated a minute later as Shannon Kearney took a shot that earned junior keeper Eve Badana her first save of the night. A few minutes later, sophomore Lauren Stollar got off an attempt that was denied by Delaware goalie Jessica Levy.
Hammaker got off another shot to no avail, while Shyanne Kimbrough and Andi Stampone also had attempts in the first half. The Dragons and Blue Hens were even at five shots a piece as they entered halftime scoreless.
Delaware came out of halftime strong, taking four shots to Drexel's one in the first 20 minutes of the second half. The fourth shot of this run got the Blue Hens on the board, as Emily Market sank the ball into the right side of the net off an assist from Chelsea Duffy for her second goal of the season. Despite an attempt late in the game from senior Christine Stevenson, the Dragons were unable to overcome the 1-0 deficit.
The Blue Hens outshot the Dragons, 12-7. Badana recorded four saves in the losing effort, while Levy tallied three.
Next up, the Dragons will travel to Wilmington, N.C. next Friday to face UNC Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. Following this, they conclude the regular season with a match at College of Charleston on Sunday, October 27.
