
Swimming and Diving Bring Home Big Wins

BALTIMORE, Md.- On Saturday, October 26 Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Baltimore, Md. to take on Loyola, Lafayette and Seton Hall. The men were victorious in all three meets defeating Loyola 196-103, Lafayette 208-90, and Seton Hall 208-89. The women brought home two wins against Lafayette 212-88, and Seton Hall 163-136. They fell to Loyola in a close 137-163 decision.
The Dragons began the days events in usual fashion, by sweeping the 200 medley relay. Teammates Katie Duggan, Rachel Bernhardt, Emily Lau, and Brianna Bentz stopped the clock at 1:47.52 for the first place finish over 11 other teams of four. For the men, Joel Berryman, Chad Schmidt, Kyle Lukens, and Alex Bagshaw brought home the win with a time of 1:34.79.
Bernhardt captured the first win for the women in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.43. The next win came in the 50 free from freshman Claudia Duguay, as she touched the wall at 24.37 and beat the second place finisher by six seconds. Bernhardt came back, this time in the 200 breast and raced her way to first with a time of 2:24. 57. In the 100 fly Bentz swam to first with a time of 58.56.
On the men's side, freshman Zoltan Gercsau captured his first and the teams first win in the 1000 free with a large margin winning time of 9:55.72. In Event 6, Alex Chialastri kicked off his day with a 1:44.36 first place finish in the 200 free. The Dragons took their next first place finish in the 200 back, when John Quagliariello stopped the clock at 1:56.55, followed by teammate Berryman who stole second with a 1:57.84 time. In the 200 breast, Andrew Reimon and Schmidt took first and second with respective times of 2:09.89 and 2:10.92. Gercsau came back to the water in the 50 free and stopped the clock at 4:50. 31 for another first place finish. Freshman Ivo Pejovic took second with a time of 4:50.54. Mike Krohn grabbed his first top finish of the day when he took the 100 fly in 51.58. Freshman Clark Hou secured his first ever first place finish as a Dragon when he touched the wall at 1:59.60 in the 200 IM. The 400 relay team finished the days competition with a final win for the Dragons. Chialastri, Bagshaw, Lukens, and Berryman stopped the clock at 3:10.46.
On the boards, Event 15 featured the women's 3 meter where Madison Kramer torched the competition with a final score of 262.30, followed by teammate David Sanchez in the 1 meter who also took first place with a 265.25. Later in the day, diving came back when Kramer brought home her second win of the day in the 1 meter with a 263.80. Sanchez clinched the final first place win for Drexel diving when he scored a 278.50 in the 3 meter.
The Dragons will return to the pool on Saturday, November 2 where they will face George Washington for a 1 p.m. home meet.
