
Drexel Swimming and Diving Split Meet at Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams departed for Binghamton for a 1 p.m. meet. The men brought home the win against Binghamton 161-137, while the women fell just short, scoring 141 to the Bearcats 159.
Opening relays saw the women's team, Katie Duggan, Rachel Bernhardt, Brianna Bentz, and Claudia Duguay, finish in a close second place with a time of 1:48.08. The men's team kicked off their competition with a win, as Kyle Lukens, Chad Schmidt, Alex Chialastri, and Alex Bagshaw swam to a 1:35.50 finish.
The first win for the women came in the 200 free when Aubrey Murray touched the wall in 1:54.83. Next up for the women, Gizem Yali swam an impressive 100 back and took first with a 1:00.02. In the 100 breast, Bernhardt brought home first for Drexel and stopped the clock at 1:05.30. Murray brought home another win for the Dragons when she swam to a 53.53 finish in the 100 free. She was followed close behind by teammate Claudia Duguay with a 53.68. Yali also capture another win for the team in the 200 back with a time of 2:08.69.
The first individual win for the men also came in the 200 free as Chialiastri stopped the clock at 1:44.52. Joel Berryman entered the pool and took first in the 100 back with a 51.79. Followed by teammate Schmidt who took first in the 100 breast with a time of 59.40. Mike Krohn took to the pool in the 200 fly and finished with an impressive first place time of 1:56.28. Berryman came back shortly for the 200 back where he took first and touched the wall at 1:56.03. The next win for the team would come a few events later as Lukens swam to first in the 100 fly with a fast 52.01.
Both the women and the men were successful in their final 400 free relays of the day. Murray, Bernhardt, Duguay, and Bentz swam to first with a time of 3:35.92. For the men, Chialastri, Lukens, Bagshaw, and Berryman touched the wall at 3:12.04.
On the diving end, Madison Kramer captured the top place in the 3 meter with a score of 243.98. Later in the meet, she also finished first in the 1 meter with a score of 230.33.
The Dragons will return to the pool on Friday, November 22 until Sunday, November 24 as they head to Rutgers University for the Frank Elm Invitational.
