Softball Beaten in 12 Innings in Series Finale at Towson, 3-2

TOWSON, Md. - The Drexel bullpen held Towson to just one run over 9.2 innings of work, but that run proved to be enough for the Tigers as they swept Drexel in a weekend series with a 3-2, 12-inning game on Sunday. The Dragons scored twice in the fourth inning to even the score at the time, but could not push another run across as they remain winless in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Towson, which shut out Drexel in two games on Saturday, got on the board first on Sunday with two runs in the third inning. Delanie Dunham drove in both with a single to right field, plating Hailey Balk and Olivia Yarbrough.
Drexel answered in the fourth with a trio of doubles. Jenn Reading led off with a double ripped to the fence in left field. Up next was Comfort Ahonkhai, who laced a two-bagger herself to left-center field. Reading scored, and after Jess O'Hara pushed Ahonkhai to third with a sacrifice bunt, Jill Popek brought her home with the inning's third double.
Unfortunately for the Dragons, they would manage just one more hit the rest of the afternoon. Nevertheless, they were kept in the game thanks to the outstanding work of the bullpen. With the score tied at 2, Tara Konopka came on for the bottom of the fourth inning, and allowed just four hits over the nexr 7.2 innings, striking out eight.
Konopka worked out of trouble in the tenth inning when Towson's Maureen Hepner led off with a triple. With the Tigers looking to end the game, Konopka got a pop up followed by two strike outs to keep Drexel alive heading to the eleventh.
In the 12th, however, a hit-by-pitch came around to hurt the Dragons as a sacrifice bunt and two singles brought home the winning run for Towson. Balk had the game-winning RBI, plating Bina Abbott.
Drexel will return to action on Tuesday when it visits La Salle for a single game at 3:00 p.m.
