Field Hockey Suffers 2-1 Loss to James Madison

PHILADELPHIA- The Drexel field hockey team fell 2-1 to James Madison on senior night at Buckley Field. The loss drops the Dragons to 8-7 overall and 0-3 in the CAA. The win moves the Dukes to 10-5 on the season and 2-2 in the CAA.
The Dragons struck first when Jessica McCarthy connected on a shot off a penalty corner for her fourth of the season in the 18th minute. The Dragons held for the remainder of the half thanks to a defensive save from Rebecca Werner at the 23:42. Jantien Gunter made a save on Adrienne le Vatte just past the 29th minute in order preserve the 1-0 lead.
James Madison got two second half goals from Dana Allaband and Bethany Ashworth. Allaband stepped up to the penalty spot and put home the shot for her second goal of the season. Off a James Madison penalty corner Ashowrth deflected an inital shot by le Vatte to get the Dukes in front right at the 66-minute mark. The Dragons then pulled Gunter from the goal in order to tie the game with just over two minutes to play but the Dragons were unable to score.
Drexel returns to action on Sunday at noon at William and Mary.
