Field Hockey Falls at William and Mary, 2-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Drexel field hockey team fell to the Tribe of William and Mary 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Dragons to 8-8 overall and 0-4 in the CAA. The Tribe improves to 6-10 and 3-1 in the CAA. Drexel has four conference losses for the first time since losing five back in 2011.
William and Mary held a 16-10 advantage in shots. The Tribe got 12 of those shots on Jantien Gunter in the Dragon goal. Gunter turned away 10 of those 12 shots on the afternoon. Jessica McCarthy had a few chances to get the Dragons on the board but was turned away by Meredith Savage in the Tribe's goal. With three minutes left in the half Allyson Fuller had a shot that beat Savage but Kelsea Hull kept it out.
William and Mary got first half goals from Pippin Saunders and Emma Clifton. Saunders' tally is her ninth of the season. Clifton got an assist from Jesse Ebner on her fifth of the season.
The Dragons had chances to get back into the game in the second half. Rachel Sumfest and Idrienne Walker each had chances in the 53rd minute but Walker's shot was blocked and Sumfest's follow-up was pushed left. Earlier in the period McCarthy and Mary Lynam both had shots that wide and blocked as well.
The Dragons travel to Towson and Delaware next weekend to wrap-up the 2014 season.
