TOWSON, Md. – A two goal night from Margaux Lourtie helped the Drexel Dragons (9-8, 1-4 CAA) get the road win over the Towson Tigers (2-15, 0-6 CAA) on Friday night. The Dragons controlled the tempo all evening, leading to 25 shots, with 18 getting on goal.
Mary Lynam added the other tally for the Dragons, which is her fourth of the season. The two for Lourtie were her first two of the season.
The first of Lourtie's tallies came just past the 20-minute mark of the first half when she beat Emilee Woodhall high to the right side. The senior from Belgium then wasted little time in getting her second of the evening when she put home a pass from Allyson Fuller, off a corner, less than two minutes later.
Lynam's tally came just short of the half hour mark when she converted to make it 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
In the second half the Dragons had multiple chances early on after four penalty corners in the first four minutes but shots from Jessica McCarthy and Lourtie were kept out of the Tiger goal.
Towson had chances to get back into the game but Jantien Gunter made two saves, which were her only two of the night, on Courtney Branco and Stacey Mackintosh within a minute span to preserve the shutout.
After those two saves, Rachel Sumfest had two cracks at lengthening the Dragon lead but Woodall made two of her 13 saves to keep the score unchanged. Inside of seven minutes to play the Dragons had more chances but Woodall turned away shots by Jenna Knouse, Christina Conrad and four from Lourtie.
Gunter recorded her ninth win of the season and 37th of her career.
The Dragons conclude the 2014 season with a road trip to Newark, Delaware to take on the Delaware Blue Hens on Sunday at 1 p.m.
