Field Hockey Suffers 5-0 Loss to No. 9 Penn State

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel field hockey team had its three-game winning streak snapped by the visiting No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday night by the score of 5-0. Drexel is 6-4 on the season with Penn State improving to 9-2 in 2014.
Taylor Harold started the scoring for Penn State in the 11th minute when she beat Jantien Gunter from the right wing after she worked a give-and-go with Laura Gebhart for her 10th of the season.
Allyson Fuller, a defenseman, made a key defensive save in the 26th minute but Amanda Dinunzio made it 2-0 in favor of the Nittany Lions when she put a shot home that slid past a charging Gunter at the 30:27 mark. The Dragon defense held firm for the remainder of the half and kept the score at 2-0 heading into the break.
Penn State then scored three times in the opening 12 minutes of the second half. Natalie Buttinger and Gebhart tallied the first two markers and Herold closed the scoring with her second of the game in the 47th minute.
The Dragons were able to create some scoring chances late but were unable to put any past Kylie Licata in the Nittany Lion goal.
Drexel returns to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they travel to Bucknell. CAA play opens next weekend when both Hofstra and Northeastern visit Buckley Field.
