PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's tennis defeated Howard in today's match, 6-1. The Dragons are now 5-1 on the spring season.
The team won two straight doubles matches and were unable to play a third because of absent Howard players. Marcela Rosales and Zeynep Mafa played aggressive tennis for the, 6-3, win against the Bison, as Mafa completed strong serves and Rosales executed on returns. Nicole Pivonka and Erin Bowsher also defeated their opponents, 6-4, with speed and endurance.
In singles, the Dragons were victorious in four out of five matches. Pivonka played a hard fought game and won, 6-4, 6-3. Rosales also kept the win at home when she took down her opponent, 6-4, 6-1. Bowsher played a consistent game for the eventual, 6-3, 6-3 win. At No. 5 Lea Winkler used skill and mental toughness to pull out a, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 10-7 win over the Bison.
The women's squad will return to the court on Staurday, February 22 when they take on inner city rival La Salle at the Drexel Armory.
