Softball Earns 6-2 Victory Over Penn

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team defeated its University City neighbor, Penn, 6-2 on Wednesday evening. Senior Comfort Ahonkhai tallied four RBIs and Leticia Matsuoka added two in the winning effort.

The Dragons got on the board first in the second inning, as Ahonkhai singled through the left side to drive in a run. The Quakers retaliated in the bottom of the third, putting together a single and a double to make it a 1-1 game.

In the top of the fourth, Drexel took back the lead by putting up four runs. Liana Newton got on base first with an infield single and advanced to second as Kim Chan was hit by a pitch. Baeley Reed drew a walk next to load the bases. Ahonkhai came to the plate and put the ball in play to add two more runs for the Dragons. Matsuoka then singled to right center to drive in Reed and Ahonkhai, making it a 5-1 game.

The Dragons would increase their lead in the top of the fifth as Ahonkhai was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run. Penn put up a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit the Dragons had created.

Drexel returns to action on Friday when they host Towson for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. The Dragons and Tigers will conclude their series on Saturday, which will also be Senior Day for Drexel. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
