Softball Swept by Hofstra to Close Out Season

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Drexel softball team were swept by Hofstra after two 8-0 losses in five innings on Saturday. The Dragons finish the year 17-27 overall and 4-14 in conference play.

The Pride held the Dragons hitless in the first game of the day, while they put runs on the board in each of the five innings played. Hofstra picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the first and then added two runs in the second as Rachael Senatore and Maggie Hawkins had back-to-back RBI hits to give the Pride a 3-0 lead. They supplemented that advantage again in the third when Caryn Bailey stole home and then Ashley Ainbinder drove in a run with a single later in the inning.

In the fourth, the Pride continued their scoring effort with a double from Bailey that drove in two runs, giving Hofstra a 7-0 lead. The Pride would go on to score the game-winner in the bottom of the fifth as Senatore sent a triple into right center to score Ainbinder and put the run-rule into effect.

The Dragons didn't have much luck in the second game of the day as the Pride held them to just two hits over five innings. Hofstra took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Senatore hit her second triple of the day and was brought in on a sacrifice fly two batters later. The Pride added to their lead in the third as Becca Bigler took her turn with a triple and then scored on a single from Bailey. Hofstra would claim an even bigger advantage as they put up six runs in the fourth and then held the Dragons scoreless in the top of fifth to earn an 8-0 victory.
