McIntosh Selected First Overall in 2014 NLL Draft

Philadelphia - Former Drexel standout Ben McIntosh was selected first overall in the 2014 National Lacrosse League Draft by the Edmonton Rush. The draft took place at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. McIntosh, who graduated from Drexel in June, became the first Dragon ever selected with the top pick in the NLL Draft. He joins an elite list of names that have been first overall picks in the indoor leaguet. That list includes names such as Gary Gait, John Grant, Jr., Casey Powell, Brodie Merrill, Kevin Crowley, Cody Jamieson and Mark Matthews among others.
McIntosh had an outstanding final season at Drexel. The Coquitlam, British Columbia product set a school record with 48 goals in one season, the highest total of any midfielder in the nation. he also had 17 assists and 65 points. McIntosh was named the CAA Player of the Year as well as the Most Outstanding Player in the CAA Tournament. He finished his career tied for seventh at Drexel with 100 career goals and is 14th all-time at the school with 142 points. A two-time All-CAA First Team pick, McIntosh was named a USILA Scholar All-American. He closed his career with a goal in his last 27 games. Only Miles Thompson of Albany has a longer streak. McIntosh had 15 games with at least two goals in his final year including 10 hat tricks. In Drexel's four postseason games this year, two in the CAA and two in the NCAA Tournament, McIntosh had 10 goals, six assists and 16 points.
McIntosh will join former teammate Robert Church with Edmonton. Church scored 21 goals and handed out 31 assists in his first year with Edmonton. Church was the fifth overall pick by the Rush a year ago. This marks the first time the Dragons have had consecutive first round draft picks in the NLL Draft.
