Swimming and Diving Topped by Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In the final dual-meet of the season the Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Lehigh on Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The men fell 152.5-145.5 to conclude the 2014-15 dual-meet season with an 8-2 record. The Drexel women finished 6-5 in the dual-meet season with their 162.5-124.5 loss.
"Tough loss today for both the men and women. You have to give credit to Lehigh as they swam great today. We were a little flat and could not rise to the challenge", said Adam Braun afterwards. "Four guys wrap up their season this coming weekend at the NYU Invitational so our focus shifts to them and the CAA Championships in four weeks for the rest of the team."
Chad Schmidt had a standout day for the Dragons. He won both of the breaststroke events and helped the Dragons win the 200y medley relay. In the 100 breaststroke, Schmidt was two seconds clear of teammate Brian Woo. In the 200, Schmidt was six seconds clear of second place with his 2:06.43, which is the seniors third fastest time this season.
Joel Berryman took home two wins as individual and was also member of the winning 200y medly relay tea. Berryman, who was named CAA swimmer of the week this past week, won the 100y freestryle and the 100y backstroke.
Kyle Lukens and Mike Shaeffeer joined Berryman and Schmidt on the winning 200y medley relay team. Lukens was second in the in the 200 butterfly with a 1:53.94. Ted Taylor was second in the 500y freestyle (4:45.68) and third in the 1000 (9:51.98).
Rachel Bernhardt got the lone wins on the women's side for the Dragons in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. The sophomore won by just over two seconds in the 100 and was 3.5 seconds cleat in the 200.
Jaclyn Goulet got her first career wins as a Dragon in the women's one and three-meter dive events. David Sanchez won both diving competitions on the men's side for the Dragons. Sanchez set a new season-best in the 3m with a 325.05.
Katie Duggan was second in the 100 backstroke with a 58.22, which is the fourth fastest time by a Dragon in the event this season. Brianna Bentz finished third in the 50y freestyle for the Dragons with a 24.98. Gillian Gress also recorded a third place finish in the 200y backstroke.
The NYU Invitational is sechedule for Friday February 6 and Saturday the 7. The CAA Diving Championships will by February 21 and 22 in Newark, Delaware with the Swimming Championships taking place from February 25-28 in Richmond, Virginia.
