Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to La Salle in Opener

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's swimming and diving team fell to the La Salle Explorers on Friday night in the squad's home and season opener from the Drexel Pool by a final score of 167-133.
 
Senior captain Joel Berryman picked up where he left off last season, winning all four of his events on the evening. The New Zealand native won the 100 back with a time of 50.30. Berryman also earned a victory in the 50 free when he touched the wall at 21.60. His third individual win came in the 100 free; the junior edge an Explorer swimmer by 0.43 seconds with a final mark of 47.40.
 
Freshman Dane Bell turned in his first collegiate victory for the Dragons in the 500 free with a winning time of 4:42.79. Bell also finished second in the 1000 free at 9:45.02.
 
The Drexel men also won the 200 medley relay with a team of Berryman, freshman Ralph Cannarozzi III, senior Kyle Lukens and junior Sean Swartz.
 
Senior diver David Sanchez finished second in the 3m dive with a score of 299.10 and third in the 1m at 284.85 for the best Drexel diving finishes on the evening.
 
The Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back at it tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 24 in Baltimore, Md. against host Loyola (Md.) and Lafayette.
