HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel field hockey team (6-10, 2-2 CAA) dropped its conference matchup on the road to the Hofstra Pride (13-4, 3-1 CAA) by a final of 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
After going down 2-0 in the first half, the Dragons fought back to tie up the affair but couldn't make the comeback in overtime.
The Pride scored on two corner opportunities in the first half, one 14:32 into the contest and the other with exactly four minutes remaining. Stella Schoen was credited with both goals while Claudia Marin Samper and Lehigh Maxwell-Smith earned two assists each.
Drexel senior Lauren Hibshman got the Dragons on the board and within one when she converted a penalty stroke in the early stages of the second half, 2-1. The goal came as the third of the season for Hibshman, who is 3-for-3 in strokes on the campaign.
Roughly halfway through the second half, sophomore Alison McCardell recorded her second goal of the season to tie up the contest at 2-all. McCardell deflected a shot from freshman Lindsay Boerner on a corner chance for the Dragons. Boerner earned her first collegiate assist of her career on the play.
With the game tied 2-2 after 70 minutes, the Dragons and Pride headed to overtime, the first overtime game for Drexel this season. Hostra's Simca Schoen scored the game-winner for the Pride 1:49 into the period. Charlotte Loehr made the pass from outside the circle to Schoen for the score.
