5/20/2015 8:22:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - For the second time in three years, the Drexel athletics department will serve as the host of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships, which will be held over the weekend at Lincoln Financial Field. The Division I semfinals will take place on Saturday, with the Division II and Division III finals on Sunday and the tradional Memorial Day championship game for Division I on Monday.
Drexel, which will also be the host of the 2016 event, put on the event in 2013. This year marks the fourth time since 2003 when the NCAA moved its championship weekend to off-campus sites that the titles will be earned in Philadelphia.
On Saturday, the Division I semfinals get underway at 1:00 p.m. when top-seeded Notre Dame takes on No. 4 seed Denver. One of those two teams will have a chance to capture its first-ever national championship against the winner of the second semifinal, No. 6 Maryland against unseeded Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays have won nine times, most recently in 2007. Maryland has two national titles, most recently winning in 1975. The championship game will take place on Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. All three Division I games will be aired nationally on ESPN2.
The first champions of the weekend will be crowned on Sunday. The Division II national championship game will be contested at 1:00 p.m. with Le Moyne and Limestone squaring off. The two programs are the last two national champions and have combined to win seven total titles. The Division III championship game will face off at approximately 4:00 p.m. with Tufts going up against Lynchburg. Tufts is the defending national champion and has won two titles, while Lynchburg will be in search of its first in the program's first-ever title game appearance.
Tickets are available for all sessions through www.NCAA.com/lacrosse. All-session tickets are also available for the entire weekend. In addition, under the Lacrosse Mega Ticket Offer, the All-Session Mega Ticket will include admission to the women's Division I and Division III semifinals and championship game, played at PPL Park in Chester on May 22 and 24. That 11-game pakage will be available for as low as $85.
