Drexel Athletics Mourns the Passing of Bill Thayer ’59

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel University is mourning the passing of Athletics Hall of Famer Bill Thayer '59. A three-year member of the men's lacrosse team, Thayer was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American and a member of the Drexel Lacrosse 75th Anniversary Team. He was inducted into the Drexel Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990.

The Baltimore native was also a three-time First Team Penn Del League All-Star selection, as well as a two-time First Team Laurie Cox Division honoree. A senior co-captain, he was a starter in the USILA North-South All-Star Game. During his varsity career, he tallied 59 goals and 45 assists.

In later years, he served as a historian for the Drexel men's lacrosse program, publishing the book "Drexel Lacrosse A History from the Heart" in 2004.

Friends may call at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Rd. (beltway exit 26), on Wednesday, March 25, from 1 to 3 PM, at which time a funeral services will begin. Interment will be private.
