EVANSTON, Ill. – The Drexel field hockey team (0-5) lost on Friday afternoon to the No. 9 Northwestern Wildcats (4-2) by a final of 5-1 at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill.
Northwestern struck first in the afternoon affair when Eva Agt put a rebound back in after an initial shot off a penalty corner to give the Wildcats the lead about halfway through the first half.
Northwestern went on to score three more goals in the opening 35 minutes to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. Carolin Troncelliti scored goals two and three for the Wildcats, both of which were assisted by Lauren Bernardi. The final goal in the first half came with roughly eight minutes remaining as the Wildcats connected on a penalty corner.
Northwestern extended its lead to five goals about 13 minutes into the second half when Isabel Flens scored her fifth goal of the season as she possessed the ball through the circle.
With less than two minutes remaining in the game, Drexel junior Idrienne Walker put the Dragons on the board with her second goal of the season. Walker scored on a rebound after she inserted the Dragons' initial penalty corner attempt.
Drexel managed nine shots in the game, eight of which were on target. Seniors Mary Lynam and Jenna Knouse and freshmen Katie Bagdon and Rebecca Weinstock each had two shots on goal. Senior Danielle Grassi also recorded one shot on goal.
The Dragons are next in action on Sun., Sept. 13 when Drexel faces Central Michigan in a neutral site event at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill. on Northwestern's campus. Play is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available for the contest.
