Men's Soccer Falls to Iona, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA – A defensive miscue in the first half spoiled an otherwise solid effort on that end of the field for the Drexel men's soccer team as they fell to Iona on Saturday night at Vidas Field, 1-0. The Dragons' loss dropped them to 0-5-0 on the season.
The game's lone goal came in the 32nd minute when the Gaels brought the ball into the penalty box. It appeared that the Dragons had successfully picked it off and were going to clear it, but they could not get the ball out of the goal box. Marcos Nunez was able to regain control for Iona. He poked it over to Brendan Reardon, who planted it in the back of the net for his second goal of the year.
That play, which redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jacob Jordan was helpless to stop, was the only blemish on the sheet for his second-career start. Jordan stopped eight Iona shots, including a sprawling save to his left earlier in the first half. Jordan has now allowed just one goal per game in his two collegiate appearances while making 15 saves.
The Dragons had trouble getting things going on the offensive end, going into the half without a shot taken against the Gaels' defense. Drexel would finish with four shots, two of which came off the toe of Connor Ryan. Ilai Shvika and Lorenz Walbert each registered shots on goal, but none snuck by Iona goalkeeper Julian Petrello.
Drexel will not have long to linger on this loss, as they get right back to action at Vidas Field on Tuesday. That game, which concludes a three-game homestand, will pit the Dragons against University City neighbor Penn in the annual University City Derby. The game will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
