Women's Soccer Falls to No. 22 Rutgers, 3-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Drexel women's soccer team snapped a three-game winning streak with a 3-0 loss to No. 22 Rutgers on Sunday afternoon.
Rutgers got out to a quick start as Erin Smith found the rebound of a shot from Colby Ciarrocca and sunk the ball into the net just 49 seconds after the start of the game. The Scarlet Knights would hold a 1-0 lead into the 40th minute when Hayley Katkowski extended their advantage to 2-0. Rutgers would take its two-goal lead into halftime.
Rutgers' Erica Skroski got a strong header attempt off of a corner kick just five minutes into the second half, but Drexel keeper Eve Badana was able to pull it down to keep the Dragons' deficit at just two goals.
The Scarlet Knights would solidify their victory in the 77th minute as they added a third goal from Rachel Cole that was deflected off a Drexel defender. The Dragons were unable to overcome the deficit in the remaining time.
Badana made seven saves for the Dragons in the losing effort, while Rutgers' Casey Murphy knocked down three Drexel attempts. On the whole, the Scarlet Knights outshot the Dragons, 20-6.
With the loss, Drexel moves to 4-2, while Rutgers improves to 6-0. The Dragons return home this Friday, Sept. 11 to host VCU at Vidas Field starting at 7 p.m.
