ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Drexel wrestling team fell to EIWA opponent Navy by a 25-14 deficit on Friday night. Four Dragons earned wins in the losing effort, including No. 13 Matthew Cimato who secured his 22nd win of the season at 149 pounds.
Zack Fuentes started things off for Drexel with a 5-2 victory over Brant Leadbeter at 125. However, a pin from Navy's Zack Davis at 133 and a decision in favor of the Midshipmen's Nicholas Gil at 141 put the Dragons behind, 9-3. Cimato's major decision over Corey Wilding at 149 brought Drexel within two points, 9-7, but then Drew Daniels would increase the Midshipmen's lead to 12-7 with a 3-2 decision over Richard Viruet.
A late takedown and ride out in the 165 match gave Austin Rose a major decision to cut Navy's lead to 12-11. But extra-point wins from nationally-ranked Midshipmen at 174 and 184 and then a 9-4 decision from Michael Woulfe at 197 would stretch Navy's advantage to 25-11 with just one match to go. Despite a 6-4 victory from heavyweight Joey Goodhart in the last match of the night, the Dragons would ultimately fall to the Midshipmen, 25-14.
The loss moves the Dragons to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action, while Navy improves to 6-1, 2-1 EIWA. Drexel returns to action on Sunday when it visits American at noon.
