Women’s Swimming and Diving Victorious Over Howard, 159-88

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's swimming and diving team earned a 159-88 win over the Howard Bison on Saturday afternoon from the Drexel Pool in the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
The women started off the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. Led by Aubrey Murray, Rebecca Churchill, Niki Fistrovic and Rachel Bernhardt, the women took first with a time of 1:52.40. The group of Therese Mastrandrea, Sarah Cahill, Charlotte Myers and Emily Lau finished second at 1:54.34.
Myers earned her first collegiate win as she took the 200 free with a time of 1:58.80. Niki Fistrovic came in right behind at 1:59.16. Myers also boasted the fastest time in the 50 fly at 26.60.
Gillian Gress and Mastrandrea went one-two in the 50 back, touching the wall at 29.05 and 30.25 respectively.
Rachel Bernhardt won both the 50 breast and 50 free with times of 29.77 and 24.26. Bernhardt was followed by Churchill (32.32) and Cahill (32.67) in the 50 breast and Murray (25.23) and Mastrandrea (26.41) in the 50 free.
Murray went on to win the 100 back at 1:00.37. Emily Joyce came in second at 1:01.02. Joyce also took first in the 1000 free at 10:38.00.
Miranda Rouse came in first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.44. Emily Lau and Deborah Stoddard finished closely behind at 1:02.33 and 1:03.03 respectively.
Churchill, who took second in the 50 breast, won the 100 breast when she touched the wall at 1:09.74. Rouse and Cahill rounded out the top three spots.
Claudia Duguay earned first in the 100 free at 53.68. Stoddard finished second at 55.45.
After securing the meet, the women raced exhibition in the 500 free, 50 fly, 100 IM and 200 free relay. Kristen Shema had the fastest time in the 500 (5:32.68) while Myers took the 50 fly. Lau grabbed the top time in the 100 IM at 1:02.66 while the group of Rouse, Churchill, Shema and Bernhardt took the free relay (1:41.46).
The Drexel women and men will return to the pool next weekend against Georgetown on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C. before returning home on Saturday, Jan. 30 for senior and alumni day on Homecoming Weekend against Lehigh.
