WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Drexel women's soccer team fell to William & Mary, 2-1 in their final road game of the 2016 regular season on Sunday afternoon. Vanessa Kara scored the Dragons' lone goal in the losing effort, moving her points total to a team-leading 17 on the year.
The Tribe got on the board first in the seventh minute, as Haley Kavanaugh connected with Sarah Segan, who was able to put the ball into the lower left side of the net. Then in the 36th minute, William & Mary took a 2-0 advantage as Kady Kriner intercepted a throw-in and took it into the box before she put it past Drexel keeper Christiana Ogunsami into the right side of the goal. The Tribe would take this two-goal lead into halftime.
Just over seven minutes into the second half, Kara got the Dragons on the board with her sixth goal of the season. The sophomore found a pass from Madison Dunn and then dribbled around the Tribe keeper to put the ball into an empty net. The Dragons trailed by only one goal for the remainder of regulation, but were not able to find the goal again before time expired.
The Tribe outshot the Dragons, 16-14. Drexel had seven corner kick attempts to William & Mary's one. Ogunsami recorded five saves on the outing, while the Tribe's Samantha Johnson tallied six.
The Dragons will return home next Sunday, Oct. 23 as they host Delaware for their final match of the 2016 season. The game, which will play host to Senior Day, is set to begin at 1 p.m.
