Women’s Swimming and Diving Places Second at the 2016 Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Drexel women's swimming and diving team finished in second place at the nine-team, three-day Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
The Dragons (839) finished closely behind UNCW (848). The remaining seven teams were led by the host George Mason (577.5) in third followed by Seton Hall (537), Richmond (364.5), UMBC (348), Florida Atlantic (182), American (155) and Shippensburg (150).
On Saturday, freshman Alexa Kutch broke the Drexel team record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.55. It also came as a meet record at the Patriot Invite.
The Dragons broke another meet record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.82 behind Kutch, senior Claudia Duguay, senior Rachel Bernhardt and sophomore Emily Kosten.
Kosten would also grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at 50.27 while Bernhardt finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke as she touched the wall at 2:10.95.
Bernhardt also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle at 50.66.
Sophomore April Forsthoffer earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03. 56 while fellow classmate Charlotte Myers placed fourth at 2:03.69.
Select Drexel swimmers will now compete at the AT&T Winter National Championships in Atlanta, Ga. from Thursday, Dec. 1 through Saturday, Dec. 3 to close out the 2016 portion of the schedule. The 2017 half of the schedule begins on Saturday, Jan. 7 when the Dragons host CAA foes Delaware and Northeastern at the Daskalakis Athletic Center for the first home meet of the season.

Women's Swimming and Diving Tied for First Following Day Two of Patriot Invite
FAIRFAX, Va. – The Drexel women's swimming and diving team has a share of the lead at the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va. after day two of three as the Dragons finished with four first-place victories on Friday, all which broke school records.
Drexel (588) sits tied for first with UNCW (588) following by George Mason (390.5), Seton Hall (342), Richmond (266.5), UMBC (247), Florida Atlantic (147), American (107) and Shippensburg (106).
To start off the Friday finals, freshman Alexa Kutch, senior Rachel Bernhardt, sophomore Charlotte Myers and sophomore Emily Kosten grabbed a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.17, a new Drexel record.
The four women would go on to have strong performances on Friday with three of the four getting individual wins for new records.
Kutch took first in the 100-yard backstroke for the Dragons with a time of 54.25. Bernhardt grabbed a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:00.38 while Kosten placed first in the 200-yard freestyle as she touched the wall at 1:50.69. All came as new Drexel records.
Myers finished third in the 100-yard butterfly at 56.14 while freshman Alicia Diaz finished the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.23 for third.
Senior diver Madison Kramer finished in third place of the 1-meter board with a score of 257.50 after taking second in the 3-meter on Thursday.
The women closed out the evening with a third-place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:35.86 behind senior Claudia Duguay, Myers, junior Emily Joyce and senior Aubrey Murray.
The Dragons conclude competition at the Patriot Invitational on Saturday with the 1650-yard freestyle, 100-yard individual medley, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard freestyle relay.

Women's Swimming and Diving Leads Patriot Invite After Day One
FAIRFAX, Va. – The Drexel women's swimming and diving team leads the nine-team Patriot Invitational with 267 points after day one of three on Thursday evening from Jim McKay Natatorium.
Drexel (267) leads the field followed by UNCW (238), George Mason (171.5), Seton Hall (164), Richmond (132.5), UMBC (102), Shippensburg (70), Florida Atlantic (55) and American (40).
With prelims in the morning, the Drexel women earned two relay victories in the finals at night to go along with a second-place mark and three third-place finishes.
The Dragons turned in two strong relay performances to open up the three-day meet in Fairfax, Va.
The grouping of freshman Alexa Kutch, senior Rachel Bernhardt, senior Claudia Duguay and sophomore Emily Kosten finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.06.
Kutch, Bernhardt, sophomore April Forsthoffer and Kosten then grabbed yet another medley victory in the 400-yard relay at 3:41.24. Kutch also broke Drexel's 100-yard backstroke record with a leadoff time of 54.72 in the relay.
Individually, Kosten and Bernhardt finished second and third in the 50-yard freestyle at 23.31 and 23.37. Kosten's time set a new Drexel record.
Junior Emily Joyce placed third in the 500-yard freestyle as she touched the wall at 5:00.09.
Senior diver Madison Kramer took second in the 3-meter board with a score of 246.15.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the Dragons also earned a third-place finish in the event behind a performance by freshman Alicia Diaz, sophomore Rebecca Churchill, sophomore Charlotte Myers and senior Aubrey Murray at 3:48.67.
Action resumes on Friday at 10 a.m. with the prelims followed by the finals at 6 p.m. Diving prelims and finals begin at noon.
The women will compete tomorrow in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, time trials and the 1-meter dive.
