
No. 9 Men’s Squash Takes Down No. 6 Penn on Wednesday Night for First Time, 5-4

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 9 Drexel men's squash team (4-2) earned its first-ever win over the No. 6 Penn Quakers (2-1) on Wednesday evening from the Kline & Specter Squash Center by a final score of 5-4 in a much-needed top-eight victory for the Dragons.
Senior Michael Thompson sealed the victory for Drexel as he won a hard-fought match from the No. 4 slot. Thompson grabbed the first two games, 11-8, 11-8, before dropping the second two, 6-11, 4-11. But the senior climbed back in the fifth to push it to 10-10 before winning 13-11.
Sophomore Omar El Atmas dropped his first game from the No. 2 but won three of the next four over Penn's Karim Tarek, 8-11, 11-4, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6, in a match that set up Thompson to clinch the team win.
Freshman Lucas Rousselet's match also went five games as he defeated Penn's Derek Hsue after Hsue retired early in the fifth, 11-7, 8-11, 11-13, 11-8, 6-1.
Junior Luke Willemse turned in one of the earlier wins on the evening as he bested David Yacobucci of the Quakers, 11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 11-4.
Freshman Mostafa Aboul Makarim won his No. 8 position match in four games over Penn's Max Reed, 2-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-6.
The men return to the court at No. 15 Middlebury in Middlebury, Vt. on Friday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. before closing out the 2016 portion of the schedule on Saturday, Dec. 3 in Williamstown, Mass. at No. 18 Williams.
