BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to No. 1 seeded Northeastern in the CAA Championship title game on Sunday afternoon, 3-0. This was the Dragons first-ever appearance in the conference championship finals.
Northeastern first got on the board in the 23rd minute as Hannah Rosenblatt found a long cross from Kayla Cappuzzo and was able to put it in past a driving Christiana Ogunsami. The Huskies would take this 1-0 advantage into halftime.
In the second period, the Huskies would go on to extend their lead to 2-0 as Nicole Gorman put the ball in the net after Cappuzzo tipped a free kick to her in the box in the 57th minute. The Huskies' final goal would come with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation as Carina Deandreis sent a free kick into the lower right part of the net to put Northeastern up, 3-0.
Despite their best efforts, the Dragons were unable to retaliate and would go on to fall short in their first appearance in the CAA title game.
The Huskies outshot the Dragons, 15-11. Drexel keeper Ogunsami recorded one save on the outing, while Northeastern's Nathalie Nidetch tallied three.
Vanessa Kara, Madison Dunn, and Shaelyn McCarty were named to the CAA All-Tournament Team for their performance throughout the conference Championships.
Drexel ends the year with a 9-7-4 overall record.
