Women’s Swimming Finishes Up CAA Championships, Bernhardt Sweeps Breaststrokes

RICHMOND, Va. – The Drexel women's swimming team completed competition on Saturday evening from the 2016 CAA Championships in Richmond, Va. Junior Rachel Bernhardt won the first two individual gold medals at the CAA Championships in program history as she swept the breaststroke events.
THE FIELD AFTER DAY FOUR OF FOUR
Overall, Drexel finished in seventh place with 258 points behind William & Mary (731.5), James Madison (681.5), Towson (515.5), Delaware (458), Northeastern (422.5) and UNCW (278).
BERNHARDT WINS SECOND GOLD ON SATURDAY
Bernhardt earned her second individual gold on Saturday and the second swimming gold medal for the women's program when she won the 200 breast at 2:10.89, breaking the school record in the event by nearly four seconds. The junior swept the breaststroke events at the Championships.
Drexel finished in sixth in the 400 free relay to close out the meet. The grouping of Bernhardt, Claudia Duguay, Charlotte Myers and April Forsthoffer came in at 3:27.36.
Earlier in the day, Emily Joyce placed ninth in the 1650 free finals on Saturday with a time of 17:08.48. Niki Fistrovic came in 14th 17:23.66. Miranda Rouse rounded out the field with a time of 17:39.49.
BERNHARDT WINS FIRST INDIVIDUAL CAA GOLD ON FRIDAY
Bernhardt grabbed the first individual gold of the meet in the 100 breast on Friday night with a time of 1:00.65 for a Drexel school record, besting the previous mark which she also held by over half a second. She also becomes the first Drexel women's swimmer to win an individual CAA gold medal.
The Dragons placed sixth in the 400 medley relay to close out the evening. The grouping of Gillian Gress, Bernhardt, Myers and Forsthoffer came in at 3:45.22 which broke the program mark set last season.
In the prelims, Forsthoffer set a new school record in the 400 IM at 4:26.80 and Myers broke the 100 fly benchmark with a time of 56.29, both narrowly missing qualifying for the finals.
FORSTHOFFER BREAKS 200 IM RECORD ON THURSDAY
Forsthoffer placed fifth in the 200 IM finals with a time of 2:03.67 for a school record.
The Dragons earned a fourth place finish in the 200 free relay behind Duguay, Aubrey Murray, Emily Lau and Bernhardt at 1:34.25 to tie the school benchmark in the event.
DREXEL BREAK RELAY RECORD ON WEDNESDAY
Drexel took fourth in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 800 free relay on the first day of competition that only saw two relay events take place.
Forsthoffer, Bernhardt, Lau and Duguay finished with a collective time of 1:42.07 in the 200 medley relay.
Duguay, Forsthoffer, Joyce and Murray then placed sixth in the 800 free relay at 7:31.22 to close the evening for a Drexel relay record.
