Drexel's Matthew Varian Named CAA Rookie of the Week

Philadelphia - Drexel freshman Matthew Varian has been named this week's Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. The announcement was made this morning by the CAA. Varian had his first five collegiate points come in one game at No. 18 Albany on Saturday.
Varian, an attackman from Island Park, N.Y., picked up his first career hat trick on Saturday in the Dragons 20-14 loss to Albany. He scored two goals in the first half and added another in the fourth quarter. The rookie also assisted on a pair of Drexel goals.
Varian and his teammates are back on the field this afternoon. Drexel will play its third straight game against a ranked team when it visits No. 14 Villanova at 1 p.m.
