GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Drexel softball team lost to UNC Greensboro in five innings on Friday afternoon, 8-0.
The Dragons had a tough match-up in the Spartans, who now hold a 22-11 overall record. UNC Greensboro posted three runs in the first inning off of back-to-back home runs and then in the second added another run off an RBI double up the middle to take a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Spartans would have two more unanswered runs cross the plate to extend their advantage to 6-0. UNC Greensboro then cemented their victory in the fourth as Daniellle Vega hit a two-run home run to center field, her second of the day, that put the Spartans ahead 8-0 and brought the run-rule into effect as the game headed to the fifth inning.
Despite a final attempt to stay alive from the Dragons, the UNC Greensboro defense was able to get out of the inning and ultimately earn the victory.
Alicia Bazonski got the win for the Spartans, while Katie Haley was credited with the loss for Drexel moving her to 4-3 on the season.
The Dragons move to 14-10 overall. Next up, Drexel is set to open conference play this weekend with a road series against Elon. Both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
