Golf Finishes Fourth at Anteater Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. -- Drexel golf wrapped up its spring break by placing fourth out of 10 teams at the Anteater Invitational hosted by UC Irvine. The Dragons fired the third best score of Tuesday afternoon, as they narrowly missed taking third by just one shot. Individually, Chris Crawford led the way for Drexel with a 219 over the 54 holes at the par-72 El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel, Calif. Crawford tied for second, just two shots behind Long Beach State's Daniel Chian.

Long Beach State won the tournament, shooting an 891. The 49'ers were seven shots better than UC Irvine. Cal State Northridge edged out the Dragons by just one stroke, finishing at 903. Drexel began the tournament with a 298 in the morning round on Monday, but shot 306 during difficult conditions in the afternoon. The Dragons rebounded to shoot 300 over the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

Crawford, last season's CAA Player of the Year, shot two-over-par on the first and last 18. On Monday afternoon, he shot one-under-par. Crawford tied for second place with Kevin Lee of Long Beach State. Drexel's top performer in the final round was Aaron Fricke. The sophomore went two-under-par on the final 18 and finished tied for fifth overall in the tournament with a 221. Yoseph Dance finished at 230, which tied him for 21st overall. Mike Cook shot a 76 on Tuesday, his best round of the tournament.

The Dragons return home tonight and will be back in action this weekend when they visit Towson.
