Golf Seeks First Title at CAA Championships This Weekend

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The Drexel golf team heads to the CAA Championships from Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24 in the 54-hole season finale at the Saint James Plantations in Southport, N.C. The conference tournament will feature 18 holes on each Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the men seek their first league title.
TEEING OFF
Nine squads will compete on the par 72, 6,784-yard Founders Club for the three-day event. Towson, William & Mary and the College of Charleston head out in the first wave at 9 a.m. from the first tee on Friday. James Madison, Delaware and Drexel will tee off from the first hole just before 10 a.m. followed by Elon, UNCW, and Hofstra at 10:48 a.m. Action continues on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Drexel forced a two-hole playoff in the 36-hole Finegan Invitational at the Philadelphia Country Club this past Monday as Navy proved victorious after the extra holes. Senior Christopher Crawford earned the medalist honors with a card of 68-70—138 (-4) for the eighth time in his four-year Drexel career.
AWARDS AND AWARDS
Crawford won his 11th career CAA Golfer of the Week award from the conference. It comes as the final time the senior will obtain the award due to the end of the regular season. The eight-time medalist and last year's CAA Player of the Year looks to continue his success this weekend in North Carolina.
STROKE AVERAGE
Crawford leads the squad with a 72.0 stroke average followed by junior Yoseph Dance at 74.8. Sophomore Aaron Fricke, freshman Michael Cook and sophomore Adam Mistretta come in at 76.1, 76.8 and 76.9, respectively. Junior Brian Fischer, who has played in four of the 10 tournaments, is averaging 76.5 strokes per round.
