BERKELEY, Calif. – The Drexel field hockey team (3-3) defeated the Cal Golden Bears (1-5) on Wednesday from Berkeley, Calif. by a final of 2-1 behind goals from sophomore Megan Wiest and senior Idrienne Walker.

Coming off a win at Temple last Sunday, the Dragons put together a couple of timely goals behind solid defensive play to grab the first win of their three-game California road trip.

Wiest notched the first goal for Drexel 22:12 into the contest. Fellow sophomore Lindsay Boerner tallied her first assist of the year on the play. It came as Wiest's team-leading fourth goal, a figure that already matches her total from her freshman campaign in 2015.

With five second left in the opening half, Cal evened up the affair on a corner opportunity when Janaye Sakkas scored on a pass from Mara Gutierrez.

At the half, the Dragons and Golden Bears were tied up at 1-1.

Walker scored her second game-winning goal of the season 24:28 into the final half as she split traffic in the circle for the score. It also came as her third of the season.

Drexel led shots, 11-9, while corners were limited for each team at four apiece.

All eleven shots for the Dragons came from Wiest, Walker and senior captain Jessica McCarthy. Wiest had two, Walker three and McCarthy six.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Gilchrist came away with the win for Drexel, her third of the year, as she made three saves.

The Dragons continue their West Coast road trip with UC Davis on Friday followed by Pacific on Sunday.
