Men's Soccer Topped in CAA Opener at Northeastern, 2-0
9/17/2016 7:58:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BOSTON – The Drexel men's soccer team dropped its Colonial Athletic Association opener on Saturday night as the Dragons fell at Northeastern, 2-0. Drexel could not overcome a pair of first-half goals for the host Huskies as the Dragons found themselves unable to build on the momentum gained from Tuesday's overtime victory over Temple.
Drexel (1-3-2, 0-1-0) managed nine shots against 11 for the Huskies, but got just three on board and could not manage to sneak one past Northeastern goalkeeper Jonathan Thuresson, who posted his second shutout of the season. Northeastern was able to get just two of its 11 shots on net, but scored on both. Chrisian McKenna and Ackim Mpofu had the goals for Northeastern, with McKenna putting the Huskies on the board in the 18th minute and Mpofu adding the insurance goal in the 41st minute.
Xavier Bou Hernandez and Armin Efendic each put up a pair of shots to lead the way for Drexel. Hernandez, Colin McGlynn and Aaron Thompson tested Thuresson without success.
The Dragons will be back at home on Tuesday night with another non-conference tune-up as they host Princeton at Vidas Field. That game kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
