9/20/2016 9:01:00 PM | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team fell at home for the first time this season as the Dragons were done in by Princeton, 2-0. The Tigers scored one in the first half and one in the second as Drexel was held off the scoreboard for a second-consecutive game.
Drexel goalkeeper Tyler Afflerbach had four saves but Princeton took advantage of a pair of set pieces to score the game's only goals. The Dragons (1-4-2) had three shots on goal including a pair of good looks from junior Colin McGlynn, but were unable to get anything past Princeton keeper Josh Haberman.
Princeton scored its first goal just before halftime, taking advantage of a Drexel foul in the 41st minute. The Tigers fed the ball into the mixer, where Mark Romanowski pushed it over to Henry Martin. Afflerbach was caught up in the scrum in front of the goal and Martin was able to poke it past him for the score. Princeton netted an insurance goal in the 57th minute off a corner, when the insertion from Bryan Windsor fell at the feet of Nicholas Badalamenti, who took advantage for the score.
McGlynn had the best offensive looks for Drexel, with one coming in each half. In the first half, McGlynn got possesssion on a breakaway and actually was able to get the ball past the grasp of Haberman, but it clanged off the bottom of the far post and stayed in play. In the second half, with just Haberman to beat, McGlynn could not get the necessary lift on the ball to get over the charging goalkeeper. Eden Ben Hemo also had a good look for Drexel on a header early in the contest.
The Dragons will remain in University City for their next game, but will head towards the Schuykill to take on Penn at Rhodes Field in the annual University City Derby. That game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
