ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 6 Drexel men's squash team (6-4) dropped its Friday night matchup with the No. 3 Rochester Yellowjackets (6-1) by a final of 6-3 from Rochester, N.Y.
The Dragons had a chance against the No. 3 ranked team. After victories by junior Luke Willemse, senior Michael Thompson and freshman Mostafa Aboul Makarim, Drexel had a 3-2 edge over the Yellowjackets while juniors Atticus Kelly and Noel Solomon were up a game on their opponents from the No. 5 and 7 spots.
But Kelly and Solomon would go on to lose in four games each as the Yellowjackets took back the lead at 4-3.
A loss by sophomore Omar El Atmas from the No. 1 position in three games to Rochester's Ryosei Kobayashi secured the win for the Yellowjackets.
Thompson's win from the No. 4 spot over Ricardo Lopez came as his 50th career win at Drexel. He is both the all-time winningest Drexel squash player for the men and women while being the first to 50 victories.
The Dragons take on No. 10 Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. followed by No. 24 Hobart in Geneva, N.Y. on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. to close out the three-match, upstate-New York road trip.
