HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Drexel men's soccer team finished its Colonial Athletic Association slate on Saturday night as they fell to James Madison on the road, 1-0. With the victory, the host Dukes clinched the top seed in the upcoming CAA Championships.
Drexel got yet another excellent effort from senior goalkeeper Jacob Jordan, who had seven saves in the loss. The lone goal came in the 77th minute when Manuel Ferriol netted his seventh of the year off a free kick. The Dragons were outshot overall 18-2, and did not manage a shot on net for the night.
Five of Jordan's seven saves came in the second half as James Madison turned up the pressure after a scoreless opening half. He had four second-half saves when Ferriol took advantage of the free kick and found a way to bend the ball inside the far post. One more save came seven minutes later as the Dragons kept it a one-goal deficit in the hopes of mounting a comeback.
That was not to be, as the Dragons could not muster a shot attempt after Laolu Daranijo's went wide in the 71st minute. He and Anthony Amore had the attempts for Drexel, which could not take advantage of five corner kicks over the course of the game.
The Dragons have one more game remaining this season as they look to snap what has grown to an eight-game losing skid. Drexel will attempt to end the year on a positive note and snap that streak when the Dragons visit Princeton on Tuesday night. That game kicks off at 7 p.m.
