Men's Soccer Slowed at Temple in Soccer Six Tilt, 4-0
10/3/2017 8:57:00 PM | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team missed an opportunity to collect a Philadelphia Soccer Six victory on Tuesday night as the Dragons fell at Temple, 4-0. The Dragons fell into an early hole after Temple scored just 12 seconds into the action, and were never able to recover.
Despite playing from behind virtually the entire game, the Dragons (2-6-1) were outshot by Temple (5-5-1), 24-14. The Dragons managed just three shots on goal, compared to 10 for the Owls. Xavier Bou Hernandez and Mathias Ebbesen each had three shots, with Ebbesen putting two of his on goal. Jacob Jordan had six saves including a few highlight reel stops in the first half, but the Owls' offense was relentless in building the four-goal margin. Drexel remains without a result on the road this season, falling to 0-4-0.
It did not take long for the Owls to strike first. After taking the ball away from Drexel moments after the opening kick, reigning AAC and Soccer Six Player of the Week Alan Camacho Soto nailed a low shot to the left post. Only 12 seconds had elapsed on the game clock, but the Dragons were already trailing.
Temple made it a two-goal lead in the 21st minute when the Owls converted on a corner. It was inserted by Divin Fula Luzolo from the left of Dragons goalkeeper Jacob Jordan. The ball connected with Darri Sigthorsson, who flicked it to the far post where Mark Gresala slid in to squeeze it through a mass of players in front of the net to find pay dirt. Thibault Candia made it a 3-0 game five minutes later as he took advantage of a Dragons defensive misplay to score his fifth goal of the year.
Grasela added his second goal of the evening in the 67th minute to provide the final four-goal margin.
The Dragons will be back in the Colonial Athletic Association on Saturday evening when they head south to take on UNCW. The Seahawks sit atop the league standings thus far with a 3-0-0 mark, and are ranked No. 16 in the nation. That game kicks off at 7 p.m.
