AVON, Conn. – Former Drexel Head Coach Tom Hayes has been elected to the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame and will be formally inducted on a ceremony tonight, Friday, Dec. 8. Hayes is one of seven coaches that were approved by the Hall of Fame Committee for the induction class of 2017.
Hayes coached for six seasons with the Dragons. He compiled a 41-29 record at the school, including what was then a school record 11 wins in 1972. After four straight winning seasons where he compiled 35 wins in 49 games, Hayes left University City to take over at Rutgers.
Hayes is part of an impressive class that will head into the Hall of Fame. The inductees amassed a 1,538-846-11 record with multiple conference and national championships. Joining Hayes will be Dave Cottle (Loyola University of Maryland and University of Maryland, Avery Blake, Sr. (Swarthmore College, University of Pennsylvania), Sid Jamieson (Bucknell University), Jack Kaley (New York Institute of Technology), Dick Szlasa (Navy, Washington and Lee, Towson), and Morris Touchstone (Army and Yale).
The ceremony will take place tonight at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront. To purchase tickets, visit www.IMLCACoaches.com. The IMLCA was created to help build the game of lacrosse, become the premier organization providing coaches development and monitor the integrity of the game. Its membership is comprised of individual collegiate coaches. To further expose its value, the IMLCA has created relationships with the high school boy's lacrosse coaches and the collegiate club lacrosse coaches so that they too can benefit from the initiatives of the Association. www.IMLCACoaches.com.
