CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – For the second-straight year, the Drexel men's swimming and diving team finished in second place at the 2017 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Christiansburg, Va. In the four-day meet, the Drexel men earned six gold, seven silver and five bronze medals. Drexel freshman diver Anthony Musciano was named the Most Outstanding Men's Diver of the Meet while diving coach Emily Howard was named the Men's Diving Coach of the Year.
On Saturday, the Dragons grabbed three golds, two silvers and one bronze to cap off its second-place finish at the conference championships.
Freshman Jason Arthur earned gold on the final night in the 200-yard backstroke behind a time of 1:44.99. He finished tied atop the leaderboard in total individual points earned at the four-day meet with 56. Fellow freshman Spencer Hill also placed fifth in the 200 at 1:49.63.
Sophomore Joseph Brown swept the breaststroke events by taking home gold in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday with a time of 1:59.56. Fellow sophomore Ralph Cannarozzi III came in fifth of the 200 behind a time of 2:02.66.
Freshman Anthony Musciano topped off his first CAA Championships with a gold performance in the 3-meter board with a score of 326.45. Junior Simon Carne grabbed silver in the 3-meter at 309.60. Sophomore Michael Binkauskas came in fourth with a score of 260.50.
Sophomore Patrick Cobb earned a bronze finish in the 1650-yard freestyle at 15:32.78 for a new school record.
The quartet of freshman Stathis Malamas, Arthur, sophomore Luke Hanner and senior Ivo Pejovic also set a new Drexel benchmark in the 400-yard freestyle relay to close out the championships. The men finished second with a time of 2:58.00.
Malamas also took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.22 while fellow freshman Joe Short came in seventh of the 200-yard butterfly at 1:52.12.
