Lafayette Hill, Pa. - The Drexel golf team, in its last local event of the spring season, narrowly missed coming away with a victory at the Finegan Invitational. The Dragons finished second, just one shot behind Longwood, at the 36-hole event at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club hosted by La Salle. Senior Yoseph Dance finished in a tie for second overall by shooting back-to-back rounds of even par 72. It was the second straight impressive tournament for the Dragons, who tied for second last week at the Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Invitational.
Dance completed the first 18 holes by making four birdies over the last eight holes to get to 72 on the 6,641-yard course. In the second round, he got off to a tough start with a quadruple bogey on the sixth hole. However, the senior showed his poise and rebounded nicely by calmly putting together an impressive round the rest of the way. He made four birdies without a bogey over his final 12 holes to record his best tournament of the spring. Dance finished four shots behind Jordan Boulton of Longwood, who was the medalist. The senior from Richmond is finishing strong over the last few weeks. Dance has now shot two-under-par over his last 54 holes.
Dance wasn't the only Dragon who enjoyed the sunny afternoon in Lafayette Hill. Michael Cook tied for seventh overall with a 147. His three-over-par performance was his best outing of the year. Cook was a shot ahead of teammates Connor Schmidt and Adam Mistretta. Both student-athletes went 73-75 on the day to finish at 148.
Longwood and Drexel ran away from the field fairly early in the day. The Lancers finished the day at 586, while the Dragons had a 587. Their nearest competition came from Villanova, who was 14 shots back of Drexel at 601. Delaware and Lehigh tied for fifth in the 14-team field at 605.
