Women's Tennis Ties Program Wins Mark Friday in 4-0 Win over Hofstra

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – The Drexel tennis continued its roll Friday afternoon at the Point Set Indoor Racquet Club as the women's team downed Hofstra, 4-0, and the men's team earned a 5-2 victory.
Drexel's women improve to 15-6 (2-1 CAA) on the year, tying the program's mark for most wins in a single season set in 2014-15. The men's team improves to 12-6 (1-0 CAA) overall this season.
The women's team came out of the gates and swept the doubles point to take early control of the match. Ryshena Providence and Clary Rodriguez Cruz teamed up for a 6-1 win from the top spot, followed by a 6-2 win from Ghita Benhadi and Kendra Bunch in the second. Honami Yazawa and Lea Winkler earned a 6-4 victory in the third. The win was Winkler's 60th career doubles win, making the senior just the second Dragon ever to accomplish the feat. In singles, the Dragons put the Pride away with a sweep of the top three spots. Yazawa downed D'Asha Davis, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1, followed by Bunch beating Jasmine King, 6-2, 6-2. Benhadi closed it out with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Michal Kaplan at No. 3.
On the men's side, the Dragons again swept the doubles point to start the match. Kashyap Ashok and Sinan Orhon took a 6-4 win from the top spot, followed by a 6-2 victory from Hamza Laalej and Youssef Lahlou in the second. At No. 3, Balaji Lakshmanan and Alex Zenonos grabbed a 6-3 victory. Drexel continued the momentum into singles play, taking four of the six matches. Laalej outlasted Marcus Smith, 0-6, 6-2, 6-1, in the top spot, followed by another three-set victory at No. 2 from Lakshmanan over Niko Vulinovich, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. At No. 3, Sinan Orhon got back on track with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, over Jan Laethner, then Daniil Ginzburg downed Nick Silvestri, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6.
The Dragons return to Philadelphia on Sunday when they host Delaware at 1 p.m. at Vidas Courts for Senior Day and Alumni day.
