Women's Soccer Falls to DePaul, 3-0 in Sunday Matchup

CHICAGO – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to DePaul, 3-0 in its final game at the Loyola Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Vanessa Kara and Shaelyn McCarty were named to the All-Tournament team for their performance on the weekend.
The Dragons and Blue Demons were even matched for the most part in the first half and the game remained scoreless as the teams headed into halftime.
DePaul was able to break the tie in the 57th minute as Alexa Ben sunk a penalty shot past a diving Christiana Ogunsami. Then two minutes later the Blue Demons took a 2-0 lead as Madeline Frick scored unassisted after her shot from the edge of the box trickled into the right side of the net.
The Blue Demons' third goal of the game came in the 66th minute as Frick crossed the ball into Abigail Callahan who headed it in at the far post. As the clock wound down, the Dragons were unable to overcome the deficit the Blue Demons had created.
DePaul outshot Drexel, 12-10 on the contest. Ogunsami recorded three saves for the Dragons, while the Blue Demons' Lauren Frasca tallied four on the outing.
After going 1-1 on the weekend, the Dragons move to 2-2 overall. DePaul improves to 2-2 and captured the 2017 Loyola Invitational championship with its victory over the Dragons.
The Dragons will continue their five-game road trip back on the East Coast as they visit Philadelphia neighbor La Salle on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. They will then head to Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 3 and Monmouth on Sunday, Sept. 8 to round out the road trip before returning home to host Penn on Thursday, Sept. 14.
