SEATTLE – The Drexel men's soccer team fell to No. 16 Washington on the road on Thursday night, 4-0. Drexel was done in by a flurry of three Huskies goals in the middle of the first half and could not recover as the Dragons fell to 0-3-1 on the year.
Jacob Jordan made 10 saves in goal for the Dragons, a season high and his second-career game with double digit saves. Mathias Ebbesen took three of Drexel's five shots including a shot on goal, but the Dragons were outshot 23-5 overall by the Huskies. Armin Efendic, who was making his season debut, had a shot on goal in 60 minutes of action.
Washington pressed the issue from the start, earning seven corner kicks in the game's first 21 minutes. Although the Huskies would not get another for more than 10 minutes, they made the eighth count. Handwalla Bwana inserted the corner at the 32:18 mark, and connected with Blake Bodily for the game's first score four seconds later.
It would take just 23 seconds for the Huskies to score again. A header pass from Jaret Townsend was sent in to Scott Menzies, who flicked it past Drexel goalkeeper Jacob Jordan to give Washington a quick 2-0 lead. They would add a third goal when Townsend found Luke Hausworth streaking into the box in the 37th minute. In total, Washington outshot the Dragons 14-3 in the first half and earned 12 corner kicks compared to just one for Drexel.
Washington made it a 4-0 game just over a minute into the second half when Corban Anderson scored off a feed from Quentin Pearson. That would prove to be the final margin as Drexel dropped the first of two games in the Pacific Northwest.
The second of those two games will come on Sunday afternoon when the Dragons take on Seattle University. That game kicks off at 1 p.m. local time, 4 p.m. Eastern.
