Dragons Open Fall With Sixth Place Finish at Cornell

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Drexel golf team finished its first event of the fall with a sixth-place finish at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday. The Dragons began the final day just six shots behind the leader, but shot 597 over the final 18 holes at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University.
Aaron Fricke had the best round of the day for the Dragons. The senior fired an even-par 71 on the 6.904-yard course and concluded the 54-hole event with a three-over-par 216. That tied him for 17th overall, tops among the Dragons in the tournament. Michael Cook was just one stroke behind Fricke. Cook had a two-under-par 69 in the second round on Saturday afternoon. Freshmen Angelo Giantsopoulos finished his first collegiate event in 25th overall at 219. He also had a 69 in the second round on Saturday. Fellow rookie Ethan Mangum opened his career with an even-par 71 and finished the tournament at 222.
Temple won the tournament with a score of 855, one shot better than Yale. Defending champ Cornell was third, while St. Bonaventure and Dartmouth placed ahead of the Dragons.
